The Truth of Diabetes
Diabetes is more prevalent than most people may think. Did you know that more than 36 million people in the United States (about 1 in 10 people) have either type 1 or type 2 diabetes? Also, over a third of the adults in the United States (roughly 96 million people) have prediabetes. This is mainly because of the obesity issues the United States is currently dealing with. Due to these statistics, diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States and maybe even higher because it tends to be underreported.
Furthermore, not only is it physically hurting people, but it is hurting people financially and mentally. Diabetes is said to have cost over $300 billion in medical costs, lost work, and wages. Since having diabetes can be so financially demanding it is said to be that a person with diabetes' medical bills tends to be twice as much as someone without diabetes. To continue, why diabetes is mentally taxing is because it takes a serious toll on a person's quality of life considering it is a chronic (long-lasting) health condition.
Possibly the scariest thing about this chronic health condition beyond the physical and mental detriments is that there is currently no cure for diabetes. Once someone is diagnosed with diabetes they have it for good. Though on the bright side there are many things people with diabetes can do to manage it and the complications it adds to a human's life. People can also do preventative tasks within their lifestyles to even prevent getting diabetes in the first place so it never becomes an issue.
Raising Awareness around Diabetes
Considering all of this, people need to start raising more awareness and funds around diabetes because it is way more severe than we think. One of the best ways to raise awareness is with a silicone diabetes bracelet. These bracelets are one of the cheapest, easiest, and most moving ways to spread awareness. By simply wearing a customizable diabetes rubber wristband you are showing that you are aware of the condition, you are making others more aware, and you are showing you care for such a deadly condition. If someone has diabetes and sees someone with a silicone bracelet supporting them it can make their day!
Rubber wristbands can also be worn by people to help them and be a reminder to people to do what is needed to prevent themselves from getting diabetes. Things people can do to prevent diabetes include drinking more water, drinking fewer sugary drinks, eating healthier, and being more physically active. On a customizable silicone bracelet, people can have these reminders on the bands. Then if they wear them daily every time they look down at their wrists the bands can act as a reminder to be as healthy as possible to prevent diabetes from ever becoming an issue. Like how the “Live Strong” yellow silicone wristbands worked.
Lastly, silicone bracelets for diabetic awareness can be worn by people that have diabetes as medical alert bracelets. A medical alert rubber bracelet can be worn so people around can know that the specific person has a chronic condition. Furthermore, people's bodies can start to suffer at times if their body needs more insulin at specific moments. If a person that needs help is wearing an alert bracelet people around them will have a better opportunity to know what they need to do to help.
Overall, diabetes is a very serious issue and especially in the United States. It continues to become even more of a problem daily. It is causing many deaths, financial issues, mental issues, and more. Considering all of this people need to start raising more awareness. Even if it is a small contribution of just wearing a rubber wristband to spread the word.
