Camouflage History
In 1914 it is said that the first ever camouflage military uniforms were designed by France. The U.S. prior to WW1 did not have camouflage uniforms, but the soldiers would use mud and dirt on their uniforms for the same idea as camouflage of blending in with their surroundings. Then WW1 came around and even though it was not super popular yet the US Army had its first camouflage unit.
The US Army’s first unit with camouflage was known to be called the Camofleurs which were impressive artists that started designing camouflage tactics for the rest of the Army. These tactics immediately helped soldiers, bases, vehicles, guns, etc. to blend in with the environment and stay hidden from enemies. Furthermore, there were different types of camouflage that were made based on the environment being fought in.
Due to the great success of camouflage, it has never been not used in the military and is still used in every branch of the military. Even the new military branch, the US Space Force, has adopted camouflage as their combat uniform style. As mentioned earlier though, not all camouflage is the same and it is based on what the branch/group of soldiers will be doing and the environment that they are in.
